Galileo High Accuracy Service and its importance for mobility applications

, Frequenz en

The European Commission has confirmed recently that Galileo, the European GNSS, will offer a free high accuracy service based on open and free corrections transmitted in the E6 band (1278.75 MHz). This new High Accuracy Service is foreseen to be gradually available starting from next year, as a test signal, and ending with the full completion of the Galileo 1st Generation constellation, in the next few years. Even if its performance will be below the centimeter-level accuracy offered by commercial solutions, in order to minimize disturbance of already existing market providers, the Galileo Program expects that the High Accuracy Service will become a key building block of present and future location-based applications, requiring more and more accuracy and reliability, such as autonomous cars, drones, and many others. This presentation will present the current definition status of Galileo High Accuracy Service, the deployment plans of the Galileo program for the next years, how it can coexist with other technologies, and why it can be useful for future end-user applications.
